Videos from Hunting High and Low

Take on me
Single released July 1985

The famous, or maybe now infamous, animated video. Even today, the video still strikes a chord and was quite recently used in a parody on the cartoon The family guy.
The sun always shines on tv
Single released January 1986

This one goes on where Take on me left off - yes the little animated dude goes back to his picture world *sniff* leaving his big love behind in the real world - sad. Contrary to popular believe, this was not a low budget video. The entire video was shot in black and white and handpainted afterwards to get the right effect.
Train of thought
Single released March 1986

Another animated video - this one goes on where The sun always shines on tv stops - but since there's not much of a story to The sun always shines video, I'm not exactly sure where that is. Still this is a good video.
Hunting high and low
Single released June 1986

A better video, breaking a bit from the animation obsession, although it has that whole spinning silhouette thing going.

Videos from Scoundrel Days

I've been losing you
Single released October 1986

Shots off the boys performing. I can blame time constraints, a-ha was very busy. And it is good, now for someone like me, to see how much energy they had on stage. But, I can still think of a lot better videos to this song - especially considering what it's about.
Cry Wolf
Single released November 1986

A boy brings a pop-up book home, a-ha screams cry wolf from the pages, wolf runs around the pages and real life? The little boy fetches a man (who I always assume is his grandfather), and the wolf is gone - just like in the story.
Manhattan skyline
Single released February 1987

The video starts out with the old newspaper 'connect the dots' games, a-ha being the subject of inspiration for the pictures, (moving) photos of them appear 'in' the newspaper. The boys kinda relax in a crossword puzzle for a while, and then, for some odd reason they are in a wind tunnel with papers flying around them - but the tunnel is cool, so I'm not complaining.

Videos from Stay on these roads

The living daylights
Single released June 1988

Not the "same song" that's on the album. The video is very 007 with shots from the movie and the boys, in a movie studio. Modern 007 videos are better, but this one's not bad as videos go.
The blood that moves the body
Single released June 1988

Again 'live action' shots of the boys on stage. Loads of images of viscious dogs and, from my perspective, more than a little bit of pain. Loads of contrasts between 'fun' and 'not so fun'. The boys looking all dreamy and introspective. Actually - I don't get this video and I'm just babbling

Touchy
Single released August 1988

This one is definately up there as one of a-ha's most bizarre videos (and they have a few). It was probably just a fun video to make. It looks like they had fun. Synchronized swimming scenes, the boys in black one piece swimsuits on the beach - women in big hats... the whole thing is just very strange. Fun... but odd.

You are the one
Single released November 1988

Oh dear yes. What are the women with the dogs up to? Modelling clothes that don't seem so strange at the moment. And honestly - who's idea was the sailor suits? Really. I want to know.

There's never a forever thing
Sometime in 1989

Absolutely no comment... it's probably a great video - but I've yet to listen to the song from beginning to end, so I have not been able to watch the video from beginning to end. I think Lauren did this one. And as far as I know, I wouldn't really since I can't watch the video, a-ha is not seen once in the entire video.

Videos from East of the sun West of the moon

Crying in the rain
Single released October 1990

There are two versions of this video. In this one there are only one or two shots of the boys. In the alternative video there are more shots of Morten... yes his face sold records.
I call your name
Single released December 1990

This time performing together in a studio or something similar with a full backing band... Strange colouring used, I may be colourblind, but the whole video has a blueish greyish tint to it.

Early morning
Single released February 1991

More of a-ha performing... this was apparantly a favourite with them in the 'old' days. That's all I'm saying about this one.
