Videos from Memorial Beach

Move to Memphis
Single released October 1991 (Headlines and Deadlines)

A video that, it would seem, was purely intended for the female market. Shirtless Morten setting screens on fire with sensual, sexual moves. Bad video, unless you're in woman in which case this is probably your favourite a-ha video of all time.
Dark is the night
Single released May 1993

Another one of those very odd a-ha videos. The original video was cut from playlists because it was deemed 'too disturbing'. By today's standards it's not that bad. This is the original version and the quality isn't great.
Angel
Single released September 1993

Don't see much of Magne and Paul in this video. Morten plays himself and, confusingly, the angel who shows him the future of his girlfriend's death in a car accident so he can stop her from driving off and saving her life. This took me a while to figure out - shows my level of creative thinking - and I still don't get the whole swan idea, other than the fact that it causes the accident.

Summer Moved On
Single released May 2000

Yes well... I don't quite get this video - I'm not so sure there's a story behind this one. Bunch of cars parked on the beach, groups people looking cold and miserable sitting around in the dark waiting for the sun to come up so they can feel warm and happy. I suppose the sun could symbolize hope or joy or something, chasing away the painful dark? Just a thought.

Minor Earth Major Sky
Single released July 2000

The boys go to the moon! Morten becomes delusional and starts to see things. He spends his time on the moon with the figments of his imagination, missing his ride home. Magne and Paul leaves our hero on the moon and goes home! Rude.
Velvet
Single released September 2000

Oh boy were people upset about this video! All three the boys die by the hands of some kind of sexy minx. Morten, very unselfishly, dies naked and wet in a bathtub. Magne ends up in a freezer and Paul gets shot. The nurses at the morgue makes a day of it by playing with the boys' bodies. They were pretty corpses though - I don't blame the nurses one bit. A little surreal in places, but I like this video. It's... different.

Videos from Lifelines

Forever not yours
Single released April 2002

Based on the bible story about Noah's Ark. It's raining and it's not going to stop. Those who have something of value, like art, or have something to contribute to the future of the human race and those who can buy their way on, gets a place on the "Ark". Our boys are duped into believing that they are VIPs but as soon as they are on the boat, they are put to work. Figure it out for yourself.
Lifelines
Single released July 2002

The video is based on a Norwegian short film called 'A year along the abandoned road' directed by Martin Skallerud in 1991. He used a specially developed nature animation technique. The end result shows a whole year passing by in one shot at 50 000 times the normal speed. Magne was the first person who were able to buy rights to use the film. They cut it down from 12 to 4 minutes and the boys were edited in. It really is a piece of art.

Did anyone approach you
Single released October 2002

Again a-ha's favourite - live action footage. Reportedly they decided to make a live video because they started to earn a reputation for being a great live band. Lauren made this video in 24 hours and in one effect has Morten 'standing' in the middle of a crowd. Lauren commented that the video showed a-ha as the way she sees them - great musicians who have been underrated.

Video from How can I sleep with your voice in my head

The sun always shines on t.v.
Single released March 2003

The only single from How can I sleep with your voice in my head and a new video for The sun always shines on t.v. Yet another, 'a-ha live' video, although in all fairness, this is a live recording.
Another of Lauren's excellent videos.

Videos from Analogue

Celice
Single released October 2005

The video was directed Jörn Heitmann - Rammstein's regular director. It's a little explicit (I see worse things on daytime television) Magne says: "The video is about people who have lost their direction in the hunt for meaning - and loneliness as a result of lost innocence."
Analogue
Single released December 2005 (January 2006 - UK)

Interesting black and white video featuring the guys standing around... something. Anyway, some shiny gold stuff rains from the heavens and Morten draws pretty pictures with it, including a representation of an electrical current - you know the thing everyone learns to draw in science class. At the end of the line, Morten snaps his fingers and hey presto! Fireworks... I guess he gets that a lot.
